Did Your Code Ever Make Anyone Deaf?
"Siemens AG anticipates additional costs from a software problem with new mobile phones that has led retailers to suspend sales. Five models of its new 65 series can emit a piercing melody into users' ears if the battery fails during a call, causing hearing damage in extreme cases, according to a statement."

Tricks used by different kinds of workers
Desktop Support
When desktop support technicians resolve a ticket, they are usually required to document the cause and solution to the problem. Supervisors see these records, so you have to be professional, but can usually get away with using the acronym “PEBKAC” in situations where the user caused the initial problem. PEBKAC stands for “Problem Exists Between Keyboard and Chair.”
Piano Salesman
If you see a potential customer eyeing a piano, estimate their age and calculate what year it was when they were 18 years old. Play a big hit from that year on the piano they’re looking at. With a lot of preparation and a little luck, you might play the exact song they were listening to when they lost their virginity, got married, or drove their first car. The emotional resonance will overcome sales resistance and even open their wallets to a more expensive piano.
Software Tester
Because developers don’t expect testers to read through their code, doing so is a quick and easy way to find possible bugs. Look for comments like “// HACK” or “// fix this crap later.”

Power to Learn Laptop Computer Initiative
"The Cobb County School District is considering a plan to equip all teachers, middle and high school students with laptop computers. The district is awaiting responses from several of the largest computer manufacturers, and a proposal could be brought to the Board of Education by late September or October.
The plan, called Power To Learn, would equip teachers with laptops beginning this (2004-05) school year so that they may become acquainted with the devices and begin planning for the integration of their classroom instruction using this new technology. High school students would be provided laptops at the start of the 2005-06 school year, and middle school students would receive them later in the school year. Other school districts (see Henrico County, Va.) across the country that have equipped students with laptops have seen remarkable benefits. Students are drawn to the medium and adapt very quickly, including large numbers of students who do not have access to such technology in their homes. Some of the benefits include increased attendance, fewer discipline problems, more student engagement, more parental involvement, and higher test scores"

Protected Storage PassView
Protected Storage PassView is a small utility that reveals the passwords stored on your computer by Internet Explorer and Outlook Express. The passwords are revealed by reading the information from the Protected Storage.
This utility can show 4 types of passwords:
Outlook passwords: When you create a mail account in Outlook Express or a POP3 account in Microsoft Outlook, and you choose the "Remember password" option in the account properties, the password is saved in the Protected Storage, and this utility can instantly reveal it.
Be aware that if delete an existing Outlook Express account, the password won't be removed from the Protected Storage. In such a case, the utility won't be able to obtain the user-name of the deleted account, and only the password will be shown.
AutoComplete passwords in Internet Explorer: Many Web sites provides you a logon screen with user-name and password fields. When you log into the Web site, Internet Explorer may ask you if you want to remember the password for the next time that you log into this Web site. If choose to remember the password, the user-name and the password are saved in the Protected Storage, and thus they can be revealed by Protected Storage PassView.
In some circumstances, multiple pairs of user-name and passwords are stored for the same logon window. In such case, the additional passwords will be displayed as sub-items of the first user-password pair. In sub-items, the resource name is displayed as 3 dots ('...')
Password-protected sites in Internet Explorer: Some Web sites allows you to log on by using "basic authentication" or "challenge/response" authentication. When you enter the Web site, Internet Explorer displays a special logon dialog-box and asks you to enter your user-name and password. Internet Explorer also gives you the option to save the user-name/password pair for the next time you log-on.
If you choose to save the logon data, the user-name and the password are saved in the Protected Storage, and thus they can be revealed by Protected Storage PassView.
In this category, you can also find the passwords of FTP servers.
MSN Explorer Passwords: The MSN Explorer browser stores 2 types of passwords in the Protected Storage: Sign-up passwords and AutoComplete passwords
